On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the MILSET Asia Regional Office organized the 18th edition of the Kuwait-French Scientific Exhibition under the theme “Renewable Energy.” The event was held in collaboration with the General Directorate of Science Supervision at the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, and the French Embassy.
Dr. Ghanem Al-Suleimani, Director of Educational Technology at the Ministry of Education, spoke on behalf of the event’s patron, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities, Maryam Al-Enezi. He highlighted that 23 intermediate schools (boys and girls), along with the French School, participated in the event, emphasizing the exhibition’s role in raising awareness of renewable energy as a crucial topic in the search for sustainable alternatives.
He noted that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, particularly Kuwait, rely heavily on oil, making such events essential in shaping students’ perspectives on energy alternatives. He also stressed the importance of partnerships between the Ministry of Education, civil society institutions, and foreign embassies in creating a scientific environment that encourages students to explore innovative energy solutions.
French-Kuwaiti Collaboration in Renewable Energy
French Cultural Advisor Benoît Cathala, representing Ambassador Olivier Goman, highlighted Kuwait’s vast potential in both fossil fuels and renewable energy. He mentioned joint energy projects between Kuwait and France, such as the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project. He also noted that renewable energy accounts for 15% of France’s total energy supply, stressing the importance of prioritizing its development in Kuwait due to its climate and geographical advantages.
General Science Supervisor Dalal Al-Masoud reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to supporting scientific exhibitions to enhance students’ research and innovation skills, preparing a creative generation capable of raising Kuwait’s profile in the scientific field.
